  • The First Team to Use New Guideline Change Qualify for IEM Oakland
    The Mongolian roster of TheMongolz entered and won the IEM Oakland South-East Asia Qualifier using IEM’s new rules that permitted them to compete outside of their local region.
    IEM is a series of international esports competitions held around the world, and is managed by ESL. The next competition in the series will be the $300, 000 IEM Oakland 2017 that will begin on the 16th of November.
    A new guideline change by the organizer allows teams to apply to participate in a qualifier held outside of their home region when they match certain criteria, such as generally there being no local qualifiers, or the team is remaining and competing in an additional region and is unable to allow it to be to their home qualifier.
    TheMongolz are, at the time of writing, ranked 128th in the world, and their victory in the qualifiers offers come as a surprise to a lot of. They, alongside other Mongolian teams, had no chance to qualify for IEM Oakland till this rule change permitted them to travel to compete.
    They entered the South-East Asian countries Qualifier against teams such as Chiefs, ranked 45th, through Australia and MVP PK, ranked 90th, from Southern Korea.
    The roster outperformed all the teams they fought and claimed victory over both Chiefs and MVP PK, securing themselves an area in the tournament in California, where they will join the impressive line up attending the event.
    The teams confirmed to become attending IEM Oakland 2017 are now Astralis, Cloud9, FaZe Clan, G2 Esports, Gambit, Immortals, Liquid, Ninjas in Pyjamas, SK Gaming, and TheMongolz.
    The same rule modify that allowed the Mongolian teams to travel to South-East Asian countries will also allow OpTic Gaming’s European roster to compete in NA and the Chinese team Tyloo to compete in the EU.
    The European and North American closed qualifiers will begin on the 2nd of October and Buy Cheap CSGO Skins will decide which groups will be take the final two spots in the main tournament.
